SACCTN Marketing visits Indawo Yethemba Childrens Village for Mandela D

At 3pm on the 18th July, everyone from SACCTN Marketing went to Indawo yeThemba Children’s Village in Ashburton near Pietermaritzburg to celebrate Mandela Day. 

We were greeted by 20 happy smiling faces, ranging in age from 8 months to 13 years.  We gave all the kids goodie bags filled with a few sweets and chips, an activity book, crayons and a teddy bear. We also supplied each of the 4 houses with a colouring book, an activity book, wax crayons, pencil crayons, kokis, glue, scissors and pens. 

After this the kids all had pony rides and played soccer with the SACCTN Team,  a great afternoon was had by all.

The Children’s Village is a ministry established by Bob and Joanna Graham. Grannies from our churches have become the new parents to 6 orphaned children each. Most of these precious ones were orphaned due to the tragic effects of the AIDS pandemic in South Africa.

Joanna and Bob Graham and the Grannies are doing an outstanding job for these kids.  There are 4 beautifully appointed houses at Indawo yeThemba; each one is run by a ‘Granny’ who is responsible for the daily care of their children, buying food, cooking meals, doing homework and raising them as a normal family unit.  A huge “Well Done” to everyone! 

We were certainly very impressed by the work that Joanna, Bob and the Grannies are doinIndawo Yethembag at Indawo yeThemba, selflessly devoting their time and energy into a very worthy cause.  Volunteers are always welcome at the Children’s Village; from reading stories and playing with the kids to helping with homework, especially English and Maths, even one hour a week of volunteering makes a huge difference to everyone.  If you are interested in doing any volunteer work at Indawo yeThemba, please contact Joanna on 033 326 1464.
