In my travels around the country, I read numerous visitor comments that are made in our National Parks “Visitor Registers.” I have included the comments in English and Afrikaans for the benefit of our campers.

In my reis regoor die land, het ek talle besoeker kommentaar wat gemaak is in ons Nasionale Parke se "besoeker registers" gelees. Ek het die kommentaar in Engels en Afrikaans vertaal vir die voordeel van ons kampeerders.

Here are some of the comments made in the visitors register in the National Parks.

Hier volg ‘n paar opmerkings wat besoekers gemaak het in die dagbesoekers register in die Nationaale Parke.

The nature walkways should be wider so that newly married couples can at least hold hands as they walk along.

Die wandelpaatjies behoort wyer te wees so dat pasgetroude paartjies kan tenminste hande hou terwyl hulle daar deur loop.


The rangers should arrange the nature walkways and paths better so as to avoid hills.

Die veldjagters moet die voetpaatjies beter uitwerk om opdraandes te vermy.

There are too many rocks in the mountains.
Daar is te veel rotse in die berge.
A baboon broke into my tent and stole my bread. Is there any chance for a refund of my payment by management for the inconvenience? ‘n Bobejaan het in my tent ingebreek en my brood gesteel. Is daar eenige kaans vir ‘n terug betaaling van bestuur vir die ongerief?
There are too many bugs, spiders, spider webs, flying insects and so on in the nature trails. Can the authorities please spray the region to ward off and guard against these pests? Daar is te veel goggas, spinnekoppe, spinnekop rake, vlie en so voorts in die wandelpaatjies. Kan die gesaghebbendes asseblief die streek besprooi om die wyk onkant te maak van die pestilensies.

A Mac Donalds would be nice where the paths cross.

‘n Mac Donalds sal lekker wees waar die paatjies kruis.

The areas where there are no paths should be better indicated.

Die streeke waar daar nie paatjies is nie behoort beter aangedui te wees.

Escalators are recommended where the paths are very steep!

Roltrappe is aanbeveel waar die paatjies baie styl is.

The incessant whining of the Hyenas kept me awake all night. The management must please get these troublesome animals under control!

Die aanhoudende getjank van die hyenas gisteraand het my heelnag wakker gehou. Die bestuur moet asseblief hierdie lastige diere onder beheer kry!

Reflectors must please be fixed onto trees every 50 meters so that people can go for outings in the evening with their flash lights.

Reflektors moet asseblief so elke 50 meters teen boome vasgemaak word sodat mense kan in die aand met hul flitsligte vir uitstappies kan gaan.

Walking sticks should be banned in the wilderness. Hikers with walking sticks are more likely to drive game away.

Kieries behoort verbied te word in die wilderness. Voetslaaners wat met kieries loop is meer geneig om wild weg-te-jaag.

Instead of implementing a permit system or regulations, the authorities needs to regulate the population growth, so that the number of visitors to the parks may be limited.

A Plaas daarvan om ‘n permit system of regulasies in werking te stel, die Owerheide se behoeftes moet wees om die populasie begrooting te verminder, sodat die aantal besoekers aan die paarke kan beperk word.

Will the authorities in charge of our National Parks please take note of these serious suggestions and recommendations as this will definitely help in getting greater numbers of travelers to our National Parks. In doing so, you will also make visiting our parks a more modern and uplifting experience, especially for the uninformed!
